The Power of Embracing a New Season

Inspire Brisbane - Thursday, March 18, 2010

So 2010 is not just a New Year – but the beginning of a new DECADE. Opportunity to walk into a completely new season!

When you study the life of Peter, you can receive a greater understanding that there is power in embracing a new season. When we commit to fully embracing a new season we inevitably enjoy positive change in our lives.

In Matthew Chapter 4 versus 18 to 20 it says:

“And Jesus, walking by the Sea of Galilee, saw two brothers; Simon called Peter, and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow Me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed Him.”

There is no doubt that when Peter was called to follow Jesus that he was faced not only with many changes in his life, but many challenges.

1. His FAITH was challenged:

By stepping out of a storm battered boat to walk on the water, Peter had learn to walk by faith. By overcoming the Faith challenge – Peter had authority over the same elements that caused others to be afraid.

2.
His FEELINGS were challenged:

One minute Peter was proclaiming Jesus as the Son of God, and the next minute he was being rebuked by Jesus. By overcoming the Feelings challenge – Peter learnt to swallow his pride and discern God’s will over his personal opinions.

3. His TRADITIONS & PREJUDICES were challenged:

When Peter followed Jesus into Samaria (traditionally Jews didn’t go into Samaria), Peter overcame the traditions & prejudices challenge. Peter developed an inclusive spirit which empowered him to no longer exclude people because of traditional rituals or prejudice attitudes.

4. His HUMILITY was challenged:

When the Son of God, the Light of the World, the Alpha the Omega, the Beginning and the End, lowered Himself to the point of a servant to wash Peter’s feet - it helped Peter to learn that he was never too important to serve.

In this new season, in this new decade, embrace change and face challenges with a heart of boldness and victory like Peter! Position yourself to overcome challenges because this is God’s way of establishing positive change in our lives.

Be blessed!
